"Superman Is 5-Feet-7-Inches Tall"

Nick Harris is not exactly what most folks would describe as a super hero. But according to Nick’s neighbors in Ottawa, Kansas, a hero is what this 5-feet-7-inches tall, 185-pounder truly is.

According to reports in The Wichita Eagle and TV Fox-News 4 in Kansas City, Nick was walking with his daughter near his home in Ottawa when he saw a Mercury sedan backing out of a driveway. The car rolled over a little girl who was walking by on the sidewalk. The car stopped instantly, but the child was pinned under a rear wheel.

Without hesitation, Nick sprang into action. He dashed across the street, grabbed the rear bumper of the now stopped car, lifted it off the little girl and pushed the car forward, away from the child.

"I didn’t even stop to think about it," said Nick, "adrenaline kicked in or the hand of God...whatever you want to call it...I don’t know."

Only after the little girl was safe did Nick realize she was Ashlyn, his daughter’s friend. He picked up the screaming child and carried her to safety. Bystanders went to get the little girl’s mother who lives a block away.

There are no eye witnesses to confirm Nick’s miraculous feat, but according to Ottawa police Lieutenant Adam Weingartner, "I don’t have anything to dispute what happened. Nick Harris was ‘amped’ up pretty good when I got here," said the lieutenant.

The little girl was examined at the ER where they found she had a mild concussion. She was treated for scrapes and bruises and released to her mother that afternoon.

The little girl’s mother said, "She’s my little walking miracle right now. Nick Harris is a superhero in my family’s eyes."

Nick said he doesn’t consider himself a hero. "To me it was payment enough when she (the little girl) gave me a big hug and said, ‘Thanks, Superman!’"
