"No Shopping Spree For Suzy"

Suzy goes to the grocery store with a list her grandmother gave her. They need tomatoes, lettuce, salad dressing, a pound of ground beef and some snack food. Suzy decides to get a box of cheddar cheese crackers to finish up the list. It’s the next day before Suzy digs into the box of crackers. When she does, there’s a giant surprise waiting for her.

The cracker box contains an envelope filled with $100 bills -- 100 of them. Counting out the bills the total comes to $10,000. Not a bad prize for a $3.25 box of crackers. Suzy is all ready to go on an extended shopping spree with her new-found wealth. That urge comes to an abrupt end when her grandma walks into the kitchen and sees the pile of money on the counter.

"That’s not your money," says grandma, insisting that they call the cops about the find. After much discussion, the cops decide to hold the money in case somebody reports it lost or stolen. Days go by and there’s no word about the money. Beat cops have been instructed to inform store owners that a "large sum of money" has been found, but the amount isn’t revealed.

Within a day or two a grocery clerk calls the cops from the store where Suzy made her purchases. The clerk tells the cops that an old lady came into the store crying and claiming she lost her life savings.

The woman said she’d been keeping her money in a cracker box and, by mistake, returned the wrong cracker box to exchange for something else. Eventually the old lady and her $10,000 are reunited and she’s happy again.

Suzy, on the other hand, feels somewhat deflated. Did she get a reward for returning the money? Nope. No reward was offered. But the store did give grandma a fresh box of cheese crackers.
