"Man On The Street Interview Gone Wild"

A television news crew from WOIO-TV, 19-Action News in Cleveland, Ohio, is doing a man-on-the-street interview — kind of like Jay Leno’s "Jay Walking" on the late night TV show.

This crew is interviewing people on the serious topic of "bank issues" when a car pulls up and the driver calls out to the reporter and videographer asking for help in finding the nearest bank. Never mind that the crew is right in the middle of filming an interview.

But the reporter walks over to the driver and gives him directions to the nearest bank. The reporter and the cameraman can’t help but notice that the driver’s left arm is hanging out the window — waving frantically and pointing in the direction of the passenger.

The TV crew plays it cool and gives the guy directions to the nearest bank. But as soon as the guy drives off, the reporter calls the cops and alerts them to a possible carjacking.

Sensing the opportunity of a breaking-news story, the TV crew, with cameras rolling, gets into their van and follows the car all the way to the bank. That’s where the passenger — we’ll call him Gun Guy — hops out of the car and strolls into the bank with armed robbery in mind.

Once inside the bank, Gun Guy is quickly subdued and handcuffed by two detectives who happened to be in the neighborhood when the TV crew’s phone call came in.

The videographer gets some great film coverage from outside the bank, but the cops say Gun Guy will not be available for an interview. He’s too busy being stuffed into the back of a police patrol car.

The TV crew later learns from jail officials that Gun Guy is being held under a $50,000 bond and is charged with aggravated robbery.
