"A Two Moose DayA"

Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family tells the story of a man up in Maine who had a really bad day. Dr. Dobson called it "A two moose day."

It’s 5 a.m. and Hobart is driving his car on a two lane road a few miles east of Bangor. There’s a heavy fog and Hobart is driving carefully.

Suddenly, out of nowhere a moose appears on the road. Hobart slams on the brakes, but it’s too late. The moose rolls up onto the hood, his antlers crash through the windshield and the 700-pound animal’s body caves in the roof of the car.

Luckily for Hobart, a Maine state trooper comes along shortly and takes Hobart to the emergency room. Hobart’s injuries are minor, and soon he’s back on the road, this time in his pickup truck.

Not far from where he encountered the moose a few hours earlier, Hobart can’t believe what he sees. Another moose, bigger than the first, is charging toward him down the middle of the two-lane road. Is this some kind of a kamikaze attack?

Hobart flicks his headlights and blows his horn in an effort to frighten the moose off the road. But the moose continues his charge until he slams headlong into Hobart’s pickup.

This moose is larger than the first and later weighs in at slightly more than 800 pounds. Hobart is seat-belted in the truck and is uninjured—just shaken up. The same trooper responds to this accident scene. He’s never seen anything like this before, certainly not twice in the same morning. It’s a new experience for Hobart too.

After being checked again at the ER, Hobart decides to go home and stay there for the rest of the day. Wouldn’t you, after a two-moose day? On the positive side—Hobart will have an amazing tale to tell his grandchildren.
