"Rudy Isn’t Rudy Anymore"

Rudy Rabinowitz, 42, got himself arrested in Tennessee last month for statutory rape involving a 15-year-old girl. Deputies booked Rudy into the Hamilton County Jail.

Investigators found out that Rudy was involved with the same 15-year-old three times during the summer. After about three days in jail, Rudy talked with the prosecutor and agreed to plead guilty with the hope of leniency.

There’s no overcrowding in this jail, so Rudy doesn’t have to share his cell with another inmate. The inmates do, however, eat their meals together on a picnic table in a common area where inmates can watch television and play cards.

After more than a week in jail, several inmates complain to correctional officers. They say Rudy has been a prisoner for more than 10 days, yet in all that time he hasn’t taken a single shower. To put it mildly — Rudy is getting a bit smelly.

A jail sergeant goes to Rudy’s cell and tells him there have been complaints and he needs to take a shower. Rudy whines about the other inmate demands and says he doesn’t like to take showers and asks if he can just "wash up" in his cell.

The sergeant goes back to the booking office and talks with the jail captain. A few minutes later, four jail officers show up at Rudy’s cell and forcefully take him to a shower stall. There the guards begin peeling Rudy’s clothes off.

"Whoops! Better hold it right there," says the jail sergeant. That’s because sarge is the first to realize that Rudy is not really Rudy, but Alice! Rudy’s sudden gender switch changes practically everything about his — or her — incarceration.

Alice is taken once again before a judge. After much negotiating among lawyers, it’s decided that Alice will not be required to serve any jail time if she stays away from the 15-year-old female. She must also stay out of trouble for a minimum of six years. Alice is also listed on the Internet as a "registered sex offender." She’s been ordered to change her name on her voter registration and driver license — including the picture.
