"Is This A Kidnapping, Or What?"

Rainwater and two of his buddies are breaking into a very fancy home in an exclusive neighborhood. The first thing the boys see is a sound system. It has right and left speakers, an overhead speaker in the back of the room, and a woofer mounted near the floor directly under the television screen.

This is a classic sound system for DVDs — movies viewed at home — with wrap-around sound. The trio of goof balls start to load the speakers in the back of their pickup when Jason, the teenaged son of the owner, comes home unexpectedly.

The boy challenges the intruders who are preparing to run before he can identify them. Then Rainwater has a brainstorm — more like a brain malfunction. He grabs the boy and holds a gun to his head.

"We’re taking you with us," says Rainwater. "Your daddy will pay premium bucks to get you back." With that pronouncement the other two hoods drop what they’re carrying and run. They want no part of a kidnapping.

Rainwater laughs. "Run, you little girls, I’ll keep all the ransom money for myself," he yells at his fleeing friends. That said, Rainwater forces the boy into the passenger seat of his pickup.

Walking around the front of the truck, Rainwater stuffs his 9mm pistol into his waistband — with his finger still on the trigger.

You guessed it — the gun goes off. Rainwater screams in pain, and in the agony of a bullet in his groin, pulls the trigger a second time. Only Rainwater knows what’s going through his mind at this moment. The teenaged captive bails out of the truck, runs and hides in the bushes near the pool.

Somehow, Rainwater manages to drive himself to the hospital where nurses call the police. After surgery, Rainwater is arrested and read his rights. He’s charged with burglary and attempted kidnapping. The sheriff says, "There’s no law against stupidity or I’d charge him with that too." Rainwater’s buddies are later arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit burglary.
