"Nobody’s Laughing At Deli Guy’s Antics"

Young Milo is a bag-boy at a supermarket in a fashionable section of San Diego. He works after school during the week and on weekends, saving money to buy a car.

This particular day, it’s Milo’s turn for a 10-minute break as he heads for the employee break room to have a snack and a soft drink. "Goody," Milo must be thinking as he spots a box of fresh doughnuts on one of the tables.

Milo grabs a pint of chocolate milk and digs into the box of doughnuts. OUCH! Milo feels a stabbing pain inside his mouth, according to KSND-TV news. Every time he chews, the pain gets worse.

Milo finds the manager. Unable to speak clearly, he keeps pointing at his mouth. Now there’s a trickle of blood coming from between Milo’s lips. The manager calls 911.

Paramedics examine the inside of Milo’s mouth with a flashlight. They find two needles impaled through one cheek. The paramedics use forceps to remove the remainder of the doughnut and find six more needles mixed in with the pastry.

The paramedics radio for the police. Milo is taken to a hospital for treatment and a tetanus shot. Meanwhile detectives begin scanning through video tape shot by store cameras mounted to spot shoplifters.

Soon the videotape reveals a 19-year-old deli employee inserting pins and needles into a box of a dozen doughnuts. Deli Guy then takes the booby trapped doughnuts to the break room where he puts them on a table and leaves.

Deli Guy later tells the cops, "It was only a joke, I didn’t mean for anybody to get hurt."

A detective nods, "Yeah, your pins and needles thing is real funny — but nobody’s laughing." That’s when a uniformed cop snaps the cuffs on Deli Guy and leads him out to a waiting patrol car.

Deli Guy now faces some degree of an "assault" charge.
