"Bull's Eye"

TV News Four in Detroit recently reported a robbery attempt at Adela’s Bar in the southwest section of Detroit. Two men entered the night spot late Saturday night.

Details of what actually happened during the incident are not clear. The two suspects ran from the bar and and started to jump into a car in the parking lot.

Two barroom employees followed and tried to stop the car, but the driver nearly ran over one of them. The owner of the bar, also outside in the parking lot, fired a single shot at the fleeing car.

The bar’s owner called the police and the two officers who responded to the call made a report describing the two robbers and the car they used for a getaway.

Early Sunday morning officers found the getaway car parked on the service road along Interstate 75 in Detroit.

Inside the car were two men — both dead. One of the men was still holding a can of beer. Each man had been shot once. Remember, the bar’s owner had fired only one shot at the fleeing car. Apparently that single shot struck — and eventually killed — both men.

Who is the bar owner who apparently is a crack shot? Well, the shooter is a 49-year-old woman. She’s also a retired Detroit cop who knows a thing or two about firearms.

The tv news report tells us she was formerly a member of Detroit Mayor Coleman Young’s security team. She had tried to hold the suspects in the parking lot until police arrived. But the two suspects broke loose and attempted to flee.

Initial reports say this shooting "appeared to be justified" because the two men were fleeing felons, but the Wayne County prosecutor’s office says it will review the circumstances before deciding whether or not the retired cop could face charges.
